There is always a unit that you do not expect to do all the things that it makes for that price. We are now looking into a water softener which gives you great value for your money because it also has a filter. Yep, you hear us right, the Aquios FS-220 Salt-Free Water Softener will help out purify your water and not only remove its hardness.
There is a carbon block in the tank similar to a regular water filter. The general principle and mechanics of the water filtration here are pretty standard. The water will be filtered down to 5 microns. Let’s not forget that this is a pretty fine filtration and it sometimes maybe a curse of sorts.
Also, the softener is a non-salt one. The additive that you use us a food grade one meaning that you have no resin and no need to deal with it ever. You only have to remember to replenish the additive once every few months.
What Does It Remove?
So it is apparent that calcium carbonate is gotten rid of. The same goes for magnesium as these two are the main components of any hard water. This will result in well-conditioned water which will simply feel better when you drink it or wash your body with it. No to mention that taste is also improved.
Now the latter is also a direct consequence of the presence of the carbon filter. It allows the unit to also filter out chloramine from your domestic water. A downside here is that this is one more consumable to replace. The filter will wear out after a certain period of time and will cost you extra to buy a new one. What’s even worse is that the real lifespan of the carbon filter is nowhere near what the manufacturer suggests.
The Contents of the Set
First of all, let’s begin with the dimensions of the unit. A huge advantage is that it is one of the thinnest products you will see on the market. Here’s the size of this water softener: 27 x 10 x 8 inches. It is a long and narrow device which is rather easy to connect and maintain. Space-saving matters, especially when you have a tight spot to mount it at.
The mounting bracket is included which is a relief. A drawback here is that the whole housing is not exceptionally sturdy. Since it is not of the highest quality, this may lead to some leaks so be ready. And finally, the inlets are 3/4 –inch threaded brass. You will likely NOT need any connectors – that’s the universal size.
What to Expect
We already mentioned that you need to buy filters almost every month but you should also know that these filters may get clogged easily. See, installing a whole separate filtration system before this softener might be a good idea because it will handle all the sediment. Now, your 5-micron filter might easily get clogged and be rendered useless especially if you aren’t aware of the differences between the various filters when it comes to a micron.
All of this points to us that the unit is not a heavy-duty one. It does give you good value and it is a universal device but it won’t be able to handle the heaviest water and a huge intake.
